Born in Virginia her family moved to Florida while Fran was very young. She attended local schools in St Augustine and the graduated from Florida State University where she majored in interior design.

Fran opened her first design studio in Miami's designer row. Her creative talent and attention to detail attracted a list of fine clients among which was the Jockey Club. Sensing a moving trend away from Miami Fran moved her business to Palm Beach County where continuing success led her to establish the D&D Centre in which she opened a 45,000 sq ft showroom. Palm Beach County purchased the D&D building as temporary housing for their judicial needs. So 12 years ago Fran purchased her current building in Juno Beach (12800 U.S. Highway One) where she has a 25,000 sq ft showroom that features products from more than 600 manufacturers. In addition to the showroom Fran Murphy has a design staff that includes an in house architect as well as draftspeople.
